Volunteer at Our House

When you volunteer with Ronald McDonald House® Lexington, you become part of something deeply meaningful. You are not just giving your time. You are helping create calm in the middle of crisis. You are helping families stay close to the care their child needs.

Every role inside our House supports one simple promise: families should never have to face medical uncertainty alone.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older unless accompanied by an adult. Because we serve families with medically vulnerable children, our volunteer process is intentional and thorough. It includes:

  • a completed application;
  • interview;
  • background check;
  • and orientation and training.

For the health and safety of our guest families, all in-House volunteers must receive annual flu shots. Please note: due to the nature of our House and the families we serve, we are unable to provide service hours for court-required incidents.

House Volunteer

The heart of our House is hospitality. House volunteers help create a welcoming, steady presence for families who may have traveled far from home. If you are service-minded, dependable, and attentive to detail, this may be a wonderful fit.

Responsibilities may include:

  • greeting families and visitors;
  • answering phones;
  • conducting House tours;
  • sorting and organizing donations;
  • light housekeeping;
  • preparing guest rooms for incoming families.

Volunteers typically commit to one three-hour shift per week or every other week. Shifts are available daily between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Consistency matters to our families, so we encourage you to consider carefully whether a weekly or biweekly commitment aligns with your schedule.

Van Driver

For many families, transportation can be one of the most stressful parts of navigating medical care. Our van drivers provide dependable transportation to and from area hospitals four times each day.

This role requires:

  • a current driver’s license;
  • a clean driving record;
  • a commitment of at least one shift per month.

If you are calm, reliable, and comfortable driving locally, you can provide peace of mind during an already overwhelming season.

Other Opportunities

Not everyone can commit to a weekly shift. That doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference.

Student organizations, corporate teams, church groups, families, and friends are welcome to serve together in groups. Work groups assist with special projects such as organizing storage areas, tidying shared spaces, disinfecting play areas, or helping with seasonal tasks. These one-time opportunities are ideal for students, service organizations, and corporate teams.

Work groups are scheduled based on House needs and availability. Groups of 10 or fewer are preferred. Please contact Director of Programs & Operations, Jillian Pyatte at 859-469-9255 or jpyatte@rmhclexington.org to schedule a work group.

Prefer to Help from Home?

You can still support families even if you cannot visit the House or hospital. Whether you are too young, part of a larger group, or simply short on time, there are meaningful ways to serve from wherever you are.
